Safe Pantry: Food Recall Alert — food recall & outbreak notifications for iOS and Android

The short version: No account required. No ads. No data selling. Your alert preferences are stored on your device and used only to power your own alerts. Uninstalling stops everything.

What data the app handles

1. Anonymous device identifier

A random ID generated by Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) — which delivers through Apple Push Notification service on iOS — so push notifications can reach your device. It contains no personal information, and it is not linked to your name, your Apple Account, or your Google Account.

2. Your alert preferences

The states you pick, the recall categories, severities, stores, and watchlist keywords you choose. These are stored on your device and synced to our server only so the server can match recalls to your alerts. They are never shared with anyone else.

3. Recall reports you choose to submit (optional)

If you use “Report food poisoning,” you choose what to include: product name, store, symptoms, a photo, and optionally your precise location. Reports go only to our server and are used to help identify outbreaks and may be shared with public-health channels such as FDA's CAERS. The app works fully without ever filing a report.

4. Purchase information (only if you subscribe)

Premium subscriptions and the one-time Lifetime purchase are processed entirely by the Apple App Store (on iOS) or Google Play Billing (on Android). We never see or store your payment details, card numbers, or billing address. We store only a flag that your device is entitled to premium features, plus the store's purchase token so a renewal or refund can be verified.

What we do NOT do

Data sources

Recall and outbreak information comes from official public government sources: FDA (openFDA, fda.gov) and USDA FSIS. This app is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency. Always verify critical information using the official source links provided on each recall's detail page.

Data deletion

Uninstalling the app stops all data collection and deletes all data stored on your device. To have your device's alert preferences and any submitted reports removed from our server, contact us and we will delete them.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date above is updated. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
